porch swing creaks in the autumn wind
uninhabited houses, cold and dark
beds unmade and pantry vandalized
the lonely yearning for company
long-stemmed rods of steel
jammed up against the small of their backs
oppressed faces up against glass
reaching hands, reaching hearts
mismatched shoes lined up straight
victims of hatred suffering quietly
accepting of fate, no longer believers
a permanent star etched on their clothes
dark curls chopped and dyed
to conceal the truth and eliminate the doubt
children hidden into a life in the shadows
vulnerable, young, and innocent
synagogues distroyed in Kristallnacht
shards of broken glass with now-dull edges
abandoned shops dusted in desolate voices
whisperings of the lost echoing the alleyways
the blond haired and blue eyed have freedom
on the surface they seem untouched
yet deep down, broken and numb
scared to speak out, scared to be different
afraid to face the metal heart of dictatorship
morals tangled, twisted tightly until they snap
virtue crushed under stiff robust brown boots
a downfalling spiral with dizzy followers
hypnotized by the sheer power
walking forward, leaving everything behind
crushing the bodies of the weak in their step
muffling their cries, gagging their aspirations
the frail and tired are still strong-hearted
they continue to push and heave
there is no giving in, someday they will be free.

Remember the weight of the world
it's a sound that we used to buy
on cassette and 45
And now this little girl
She says "will we make it at all?"
fall glimmer sparkle and fade
it's some tough stuff. but it's reality, and one of the ways to prevent it from happening again is to be knowledged about it..

*We all wear a mask we all play a role the only freedom we truly have is what we are within.*
*Appearance is a deceptive illusion to use against enemies.*
